Mint Linux 19.3 : Thunderbird ver: 68.8.0 SMTP server rejects/bounces any email sent. In looking at the mail header, the Return-path is empty -only showing the "place-holder: <>."

This "problem" occurred suddenly... no error message other than server generated bounce message. This is not a new install of Thunderbird; and Thunderbird has worked flawlessly up until this point,.

I would think replacing - re-creating the profiles.ini would solve the problem but I'd like to verify before I make a trip to my client's home to fix the problem.

Thanks For Your Help!!

what does the bounce error actually say?

...message simply says "cannot be delivered...."

The email is via a domain name email server. These are business machines. There are two other machines that access the same email address using Thunderbird. Both can send and receive as they should. The machine in question can receive email with no problem -simply cannot send.

On the email server -I've several global incoming mail "filters" that look at the "from" and "Return-Path" noted in the email header of each received email, bouncing any incoming email that is non-conforming.... Has worked perfectly for several years. Of course, if the "Return-Path" is absent... Automatically bounce.
