On one of my web sites I have to verify my identity. There is a box to save the verify on the computer I am using which I check. When I go back into the site I have to redo the same process. This started 3 weeks ago. I have no problem with Edge

Some sites will invalidate an multifactor authentication cookie if there is a change they consider important, such a different IP address (connecting from a different location or via VPN). However, if the cookie in Edge keeps working, then this probably isn't the reason.

Do you lose cookies for any other sites, or is the problem exclusive to the MFA cookie for this one site?

Let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies instead of using "Clear history when Firefox closes" to clear all cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: [ ] "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed"

You can create a cookie allow exception and use "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" to let cookies without allow exception expire when Firefox is closed.

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception you may want to keep
