If I go to upload a file following an attachment prompt in a website and in gmail, immediately after I click a web button for "browse" firefox will crash and my machine will state that the typical Windows error "Firefox has stopped working: a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

This happens even if I click on the "Add images" button below. This started happening only about 3 days ago. I don't know if there was an update to Firefox at that time.

I have tried "Resetting Firefox," to no avail.

After a lot poking around, I found that Firefox was conflicting with another application, Solidworks PDM Professional, which was affecting Firefox's ability to use Windows File Explorer properly. In fact, Windows itself was shutting down Firefox as a result. I ended up changing Firefox's compatibility mode to "Windows 8" as recommended by a user at an online forum. This fixed the issue.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 Submitted crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

It is possible that (anti-virus) security software is causing the problem. Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Firefox does not generate a crash report for my incident. The screen, after entering "about:crashes" only states "No crash reports have been submitted." Is this a clue as to the source of the problem or at least helpful?

I will try booting Windows in safe mode as my next task.

If the crash is from within Firefox, there should be a report. But if it crashed because of something outside the browser, maybe not.
