My "collected addresses" have all disappeared. The autofill doesn't work for many of the most used addressed and I can't add back those deleted.

The address book called 'Collected addresses' is stored as 'history.mab' in the 'profile name' folder. Perhaps something caused that file to get named as eg: 'history.mab.bak' and a new empty 'history.mab' was created.

Check this out. In Thunderbird.

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information

Under 'Application basics' section; Profile Folder

  • click on 'Open Folder' button.

A new window opens showing contents of your 'profile name' folder.

  • Sort by 'Type' to get all the .mab files together.

'abook.mab' is 'Personal Address Book'. 'history.mab' is 'Collected Addresses' other *.mab files are ones you imported or created. see image below as guide.

If you see: 'history.mab.bak' and a new empty 'history.mab'.

  • Exit Thunderbird now - this is important.
  • Delete the new empty 'history.mab' file
  • Rename 'history.mab.bak' to say 'history.mab' and then make a copy of that file as a backup and store in a location not in Thunderbird.

Start Thunderbird. Check 'Collected Addresses' address book.

Thank you for the response. I'm on a mac so slightly different. I have found the 'history.mab' but there is no 'history.mab.bak'. The only others are "imbap.mab" and an "abook.mab"

Any advice you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Open the history.mab file in a text editor. Does it show any email addresses? Do you have a backup of your profile with a working history.mab?
