Here again is my BIG & REAL problem. About a week ago installed current updated Tbird, deleted old app & discovered all contacts missing & other problems. I'm desperate, could a clean uninstall/reinstall solve my problems? 7or 8 months ago I tried to do this & the uninstall failed, but got help from a community member fixed part & apparently most of the rest of problems were soon fixed. Please help me.

As you have only just installed Thunderbird, check what version is currently installed. In Thunderbird 'Help' > 'Troubleshooting Information' Under 'Application Basics, it will tell you the Version number you are currently using. The current version is 68.4.1

Yes, 68.4.1 Now, need help with the contacts listing after all. I was correct when I said that the "address books" or "all addresses" were now listed properly starting A at the top. But, when I click on the "write" button, it comes up just jumbled like before.

If you are talking about when you start typing an email address in a TO field and a drop down selection appears: This will not be in any particular order associated with an address book. It is returning the best matches based upon what you are typing.

Are you talking about the 'Contacts Sidebar' ? This should list everything in the correct order based upon address book selected. The 'Contacts Sidebar' is displayed on the left side. Is it enabled: 'View' > 'Contact Sidebar' or toggle the view using f9 key Then you can select a particular 'address book' and see the contents listed below. Double click on a name in the list to directly add into a 'To' field. OR Select/highlight various names and clickon the 'Add to To' or other options.

In the example, I only have the 'Name' displayed as it seems the best option for me, but some people like to check out the email address as well. Click on small icon to see drop down list of options.

If you cannot be sure that Wise Care 365 is not getting any access to do with Thunderbird files and folders etc then uninstall Wise Care 365. The issues you mention point to another program on your computer causing problems and Wise Care 365 and similar programs that perform clean up duties are known to cause this.

For a start, it was very odd that you did not have the correct name 'Mozilla Thunderbird' in the Program files. Thunderbird profile keeps losing track of preferences you set because something is removing data. You do not need another program in order to uninstall or delete files.

Wise Care Cleans Windows temporary files, clean browsers (IE, Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari, etc.) caches, download history, browsing history, Cookies, passwords. Wise Care 365 can also clean invalid shortcuts, recent use traces, useless files created by other applications.

You can set up Firefox to not store passwords and deleting history and cache is one click fix provided in Firefox. Same goes for Thunderbird.

You need to be sure you get control over what is going on and you cannot do that whilst you have Cleanup type products constantly deciding what they think are useless files.
