Why has version 68.2.1 removed all my emails and contacts?
Having upgraded from I think version 68.1 to 68.2.1., all my contacts, address book and all my emails were no longer avaiulable and it asked me to set up new profiles. I have reverted to version 60.6.1. and copied all the data from a backup fortunately made just before this happened. So I can still use Thunderbird. But - my question is if I create a new profile will all my data come back ?

I will endevor to address this with some reading.
I wrote that on release of Thunderbird 68. What has become apparent to me since that time is the profile per install that Mozilla have implemented and Thunderbird has adopted, mostly by default, is somewhat fragile so resetting the default profile may become more regular occurrence than it was in the past, but resetting has been around since version1 to the best of my knowledge.
This article was in existence on Mozillazine when Thunderbird was at version 2. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Recovering_a_profile_that_suddenly_disappeared The information is still relevant as corruption can still occur. My blog post is meant simply as a way around the new profile per install issues.
