Will choosing blocking 'cookies from unvisited websites' also block 'cross-site and social media trackers'?
This should be a simple question. But I simply cannot find an answer. If the answer is 'no' - then I would like to know how I can block both groups? That is, without blocking all third-party cookies? ... Have I misunderstood something basic? Thanks!

I believe those are the only four options with increasing severity. What I mean is, if you're adjusting the custom privacy settings, and click the second option "block cookies from unvisited sites" it's ALSO blocking the first option.
Each option gets more severe and includes all the previous options, does that make sense?

Yeah, that makes all kinds of sense. And this is also kind of what I would expect. Only, it is not self-explanatory.
To reiterate, in order to be sure that I understood your answer:
It is certain that choosing the second option 'cookies from unvisited websites' also includes 'cross-site and social media trackers', even after such 'cross-sites' and 'social medias' have been visited?

You're right, it's not self explanatory, which isn't ideal. The setting should definitely say "this also blocks [option 1]". I'm not sure if it retroactively deletes cookies/trackers from sites you've already visited, your best bet would probably be to purge your cookies before turning on the 2nd or 3rd level settings, just to be sure.
I thinks that block "Cookies from unvisited websites" just means what it says. If you have visited specific social websites then these cookies will not be blocked and vice versa if you have never visited these websites then these cookies will be blocked.
With the first choice cookies from known social websites and other trackers will be blocked, these items are retrieved from lists that are downloaded and stored in the safebrowsing folder in the profile folder location in "AppData\Local" that is also used for the disk cache.
You can check this via the shield icon on the location/address bar.
Firefox uses a list of known trackers provided by Disconnect. By default, Firefox blocks the following types of trackers and scripts.
Social media trackers
Cross-site tracking cookies
Cryptominers
Tracking content in Private Windows only. These trackers are hidden in ads, videos, and other in-page content. Blocking them can cause some websites to break. To add this protection in all windows, visit your privacy preferences and select Strict or Custom as explained below.
