How can I change colours, text sizes etc when composing a mail message?
This is stupid. I want to send an email, I want some text in italics, some in a larger font. HOW CAN I DO IT??? When you compose a message there is none of the basics composition tools. What sort of program is this????

Try holding the shift key while you click on the write button. Do you see a Toolbar then?

No, nothing comes up, yet at one point a toolbar appeared above the message pane but trying to get that again has failed. Thanks for your help though.
First, you should be composing in html format, which is set in the Composition & Addressing section for each account in Tools/Account Settings. Second, in an html new message window, enable the Formatting Bar under View/Toolbars. Press Alt if the Menu Bar with View is hidden.
