cant connect to imap server. had to turn off connection security to get emails.

When I tried to get emails I got this error message: cant connect to imap server. you may have exceeded the maximum number of connections to this server. I tried to change the connections to 1 instead of the default 5. This did not work. The only way I was able to get emails was to turn my security connection to none. I do not want to leave it like this for obvious unsafe reasons. How do I put it back to SSL but get emails?
