On a Windows Pro 7-64 machine I updated Firefox from 68.0.2 to 69.0 using the About Firefox dialog box. After the update no internet sites could be accessed with Firefox. Another browser (Chrome) worked fine, and I found a suggestion to change the Firefox proxy setting to "No proxy" which didn't help. Earlier the same day I had updated Thunderbird to the latest version with no problem. I used Windows System Restore to undo the Thunderbird and Firefox updates, and Firefox 68.0.2 continues to work fine. I'm using up-to-date Norton 360, and am reluctant to start changing its settings as suggested in one of the Firefox support articles.

Thanks for your response. I already had up-to-date Internet security software in place. Rather than remove Firefox from the security software's list I decided to wait a few days to see if new updates were released. Both my security software and Windows OS were updated during that wait period, and now I have repeated the update of Firefox to 69.0. This time the updated Firefox works fine, with no recurrence of the connectivity issue I reported a few days ago. So apparently the updates to the security software or OS during the last few days have fixed the problem I reported. Solved!

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

Configure firewalls so that Firefox can access the Internet. {web link}
