While importing EML files from a portable HD into TB on a new Win 10 computer sometimes 'hangs' or stops completely

I have recently bought a new computer with Windows 10. In order to save old emails (from Outlook Express) and bring them into Thunderbird, I saved them as EML. I replicated the tree structure for the emails on TB and using the import/Export tool, started bringing in the EML files in small batches (no more than about 30). But the process is pretty slow and then sometimes just hangs or stops completely. I get a message along the lines that my internet connection has failed - it hasn't as I can still use Firefox. Is this unusual? If so, what can I do?

issues are common, but one thing you can do is create an exception in your anti virus program to stop it scanning the Thunderbird profile location. These sorts of imports are disk access intensive and the anti virus and the import fight over the same tiny file as each message is added.

issues are common, but one thing you can do is create an exception in your anti virus program to stop it scanning the Thunderbird profile location. These sorts of imports are disk access intensive and the anti virus and the import fight over the same tiny file as each message is added.
