Yahoo keeps setting up my two separate email accounts as the same one. I have been using Thunderbird a long time and this is the first time this has happened.

I deleted two of the accounts within Thunderbird... my two different, distinct Yahoo accounts. When I try to set them up again the same single account populates twice instead of each one as normal. I have used Thunderbird a long time and this is the first time this has happened.

Example: jondoe@yahoo.com Has messages for Jon Doe. anndoe@yahoo.com Also has just the same messages for Jon Doe and none for Ann Doe.

Again... this has never happened before and just started now that I've deleted both accounts and am trying to set them up again. I uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it. I also have changed my Yahoo passwords and logged out and in to those accounts.

Remove only the Jane doe mail account via Account Settings, select the account name, click on 'Account Actions and select 'Remove account' click on OK

Exit Thunderbird now.

Access profile name folder usually here: C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\ click on 'ImapMail' folder. How many accounts do you see ? If you only have your account then that is good.

re :I deleted two of the accounts within Thunderbird... my two different, distinct Yahoo accounts.

Help the forum to understand what was going wrong from the start. Why did you delete them in the first instance? What was wrong with the original accounts? Where they originally pop or imap mail accounts?

Then you recreated them. re: Example: jondoe@yahoo.com Has messages for Jon Doe. So there was nothing wrong with this account. Why did you remove it again?

re :anndoe@yahoo.com Also has just the same messages for Jon Doe and none for Ann Doe. This does seem wrong. Did you check to see where the account was pointing to in 'Account Settings' > 'Server Settings' under 'Local directory:' ?

Are you setting them up as imap or pop mail accounts? Have you tried to recreate them again?

I might not be specific enough here.

Jane Doe now shows up as Jane Doe's account in name and settings but it only contains Jon Doe's messages and folders... none of hers.

Jon Doe shows up with all of his messages and folders only as it should.

I have them set as IMAP as before.

These worked for many years as they should.

Now that I removed them and set them up again recently, Jane Doe is all fouled up.

I have tried many things to try to get it back to normal including removing and setting up several times and several ways.

In the settings everything appears to be correct too.

In the end, I decided my best option was to Uninstall Thunderbird, remove the Thunderbird Folder from my laptop, Reinstall Thunderbird, and Setup all of my email accounts again. It worked!

I first tried deleting all references to Yahoo in my Thunderbird folders but that did not do anything for my issue.

Find the folder under:

Windows/Users/yourprofilename/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird

Your Profile Name will be unique to your computer.
