Gmail password help

Размещено

System Info Windows 10, automatically updated Thunderbird, automatically updated FoxFire, automatically updated Automatic updates assumed to be the newest current version.

I was hacked. So, I changed all my pertinent passwords, including gmail. I expected Thunderbird to prompt me for the new gmail password, when I opened it. However, this function seems to be being blocked. When I open Tbird, I get a popup from Google saying I need to enable cookies. Tried that, no help. Then, I get a Tbird authentication failure notice. Clicking on that does nothing.

I made the mistake of using some dated information that said I could not edit the existing password and that I would have to delete it from the password list and, then, to enter the new password, when prompted. I did that. Now, there is nothing to edit in the Password List.

I have tried various solutions. One is to open the Set Up An Existing Email Account function and add the password there. But, I get an error message that the incoming server already exists. Using the Configure Manually operation and removing the User name does not help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would be glad to answer any questions. FYI, I am not advanced user. Thank you, in advance.

I get a popup from Google saying I need to enable cookies.

You need to allow cookies in Thunderbird. This doesn't have to be globally, just allowing cookies for the domain https://accounts.google.com will do. Did you allow cookies in Thunderbird?

Then, I get a Tbird authentication failure notice.

Please post a screenshot of the error.

I get an error message that the incoming server already exists.

I'm not sure why you'd want to add the same account twice.

Задавший вопрос

I found the cookies setting in Tbird, as instructed, and I allowed them. Options > Options > Privacy.

This allowed the popup assistant to help me enter the password. Being not an advanced computer person, I would have never thought of cookies in Tbird. I was enabling them in my browser(s).

This solved my problem and I am very grateful. Thank you.
