I need help moving from Firefox 52.0.1 without losing my passwords
I have persisted doggedly with 52.0.1 because I expected that at some point there would be an update possible for Saved Password Editor (separate question that I dont expect you to answer here ... why wasnt this made possible?!? This is (was :-( ) a really great addin - I have seen nothing out there better and has seriously made me consider ditching Firefox for the first time in well over 10 years. I have been with you guys since you were the Mozilla suite)
So I have tried to make the jump twice and both times only got my passwords back because of a profile backup using Mozbackup which is so old it might not work next time! And of course, going back to the last version that supported my password editor.
Having found out today that Mozilla seems to have ditched Saved Password Editor, I now need to know please, are there things I can do to get my passwords saved before I try upgrading again? Yes I realise this is a 3rd party addin - it was also recommended by Firefox as the best way to keep passwords back when I first got it.

I understand how you feel. I am still using v54.
1) In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Note: Firefox comes in three or more folders on all computers.
They are;
Maintenance: (Programs Folder) <Windows Only> Firefox itself: (Programs Folder) And two folders in the profile of each user on the computer for each Firefox profile for that user.
If you remove the Firefox folder, the user profiles should not be affected.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link}
I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case.
Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.
Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.
If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.
Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
Saved Password Editor, like many great extensions, are not compatible with Firefox Quantum. :-(
Hiya Fred :-) Thanks so much for your reply - nice to know I am not alone ;-) Incidentally ... I managed to get a save from a restore point today (following a similar request thread) but found that in all 3 restore points, the logins.json file would corrupt if I updated it :-( Fortunately I seem to have saved very few new passwords since my last backup but a little concerned about this happening again with manual backups. Have you run into this? And ... still hoping to update (safely) one day :-)
You can double-click either name and password entry in the Firefox Password Manager to edit these filed.
You can use Firefox Lockwise to edit existing entries and add new entries. This is currently an extension in Firefox, but will be builtin in future Firefox versions (68+). This extension allow to add a new Login.
