"Refresh" stopped app working and now get a message when I try open the app saying copy of forefoot is already open which it is not.
I like Firefox but sad to say that I have increasinlt wasted much time lately with its crashy ways and I made the mistake of using Refresh today.
Now get a message when I try open the app saying "copy of firefox is already open" which it is not true and it is not showing as running on the system.
I have tried reinstalling and it makes no difference.
I dont have an IT engineering degree but how do I fix this before I just give up and walk away? Thanks.

This fixed it quickly without all that complex stuff.
Go to command prompt type in:
/Applications/Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -P
A window opens with proudly, i had two.
One was just titled 'default' while the other was 'default-9999999999999'. 13 numbers.
Delete the default profile and restart as it asks. Simple.

On my Mac I'm getting the error message "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time"
This really should be in Mozillas own list.

bizarrely posting this changed Firefox to forefoot. Weird!
I was wondering what forefoot was ;-)

Yes 66.0.5
Yes I had already had that update before it played up and I did the refreshed which caused the problem.
Thanks for these links abut the process involved is well outside my comfort range to do.
I'll try to help. What is the situation?

So is the issue solved or is 'already open' still there?
Thanks Fred McD. Yes fixed as I outlined.
The thing is that I didn't know the issue was a profile problem at the start, so I wouldnt have looked for that on the help list. I thinkl the key here is that the " running a copy " message should make it cleaer that it ,ay be a profile issue and that could be on the pop up warning. Would have saved a lot of time.
Well done. Safe surfing.
Thanks
