Did you do what it says in my last link :

If none of the suggested "fixes" make a difference; maybe this bug report doesn't apply to the beta version on Mac only :

You are the third user to report this the last few day, and it seems to affect Mac users only ....

But as you're not using the beta version; I doubt if this applies to your case .....

Would you try this please :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar :

media.wmf.dxva.

Search for the preference :

media.wmf.dxva.d3d11.enabled and set its value to false

Then close and restart Firefox.

Does that help  ?

Another thing to try is to disable graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

  1. Click the menu button Fx57Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.
    Fx55Performance-disableHWA
  4. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  5. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

If the problem is resolved, you should check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in these Knowledge base articles:


This may or may not have anything to do with it, but your system details show that you are running two versions of Flash, which can cause problems - would you please remove the older version  ?

You mention that the problem does not occur on YouTube; YouTube does not use Flash .......

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows {web link} Uninstall Flash Player | Mac {web link}


Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

There is no file with this name. I have tried to turnoff acceleration without a change in the video glitch. I completely deleted Firefox and did a clean install - no extensions and no success. Youtube videos play but the ones on this and some other websites refuse to play - I get a green screen but the sound plays. Safari works fine.

Sure enough it now works. Thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated.

The related bug report (#1546836) is about sandbox issues that prevent access to specific resources on Mac OS 10.14.5 and is marked as won't fix for Firefox 66. You could try the next beta (67.0b15) to be released next Tuesday, this version should have a fix.

I need to uninstall shockwave. Is there an uninstaller? If not, where on the Mac is it installed and I can do it manually.

I need to uninstall shockwave. Is there an uninstaller? If not, where on the Mac is it installed and I can do it manually.

The turning off hardware acceleration and restarting the computer worked. I am trying to delete Shockwave 32.0. I deleted it using the uninstall but it still shows in Firefox plugins. It shows it disabled. Adobe no longer supports any version of Shockwave.

Likely in either of these locations:

As you can see, Shockwave is still listed but disabled. I was able to delete an older version but cannot delete this one even though I have found and deleted every file I can find. I even used Adobe's uninstaller. Any idea where this last piece is hiding?

Is disabled enough to render it "gone"?

Also, I was notified that Adobe will no longer support Shockwave.

You can check the pluginreg.dat file in the profile folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:preferences page.
