I installed Thunderbird on a new PC, I can receive mails but not send a mail. I checked the Mozilla support pages and did the following:

SMTP settings and password are OK. I stopped antivirus programme (Windows defender) , not yet able to send mails.

The message is that mail cannot be sent because of unknown reasons.

Do not know what to do more

Thanks to all for your quick reaction, my reponses: - there is no unsent folder in my mailbox, the only folders that showed after the installation are: inbox-sent-concepts-waste basket. Inbox works fine. - drivers: it is a new laptop so I guess that all drivers should be OK. Are there any specific drivers that you refer to ? - I tried to upload the screenshots of what happens - language is dutch- but upload failed so I try to describe:

first screen:"connecting to smtp.telenet.be" second:"connecting to server smtp...with user name Henk Vankerckhoven failed".When I click on try again, same window comes back, Typing my password again does not help either. third screenshot appears when I click on cancel, it says: sending the message failed. The message could not be sent via the SMTP server for an unknown reason. Control the settings of the SMTP server and try again .

The funny thing is that I installed a few days ago also a second mail adress that initially gave the same problems, but yesterday suddenly it worked, so that from the other mail address mails could be sent. There is then also an outbox. I compared all settings from both mailboxes and they are the same. So, I keep searching what the cause can be.

regarding the above mentioned problem, have been able to find the cause, in my account settings the user name should have been my full mail address, but only the first part of it was mentioned. why ? I do not know. Now sending mails is not a problem anymore and the outbox map appeared also in the screen. Thanks to all for your suggestions to solve the issue.
