Why does private browser bring up WWW.AMAZON.COM every time I enter a "w" in the search window even if I reboot my laptop and start Firefox?
It seems like Mozilla is OWNED by Amazon!

When I enter "w", the first thing that comes up is www.mozilla.org on mine.
What you see in the autocomplete suggestions on your Firefox address bar is highly tailored by your browsing history, bookmarks and stuff like that. If you have visited the Amazon website at any time in the past or saved Amazon as a bookmark, it's possible that the Amazon website may be automatically suggested in your Firefox address bar.
Basically, what I'm saying is that you are seeing this as a suggestion because of your activity outside of Firefox private browsing mode.
I don't or shouldn't have any browser history or bookmarks as I use "private browser" exclusively.
It could be displaying as an automatic suggestion then because it's one of the many search engines that come on Firefox. You can find out more about deleting search engines from Firefox by reviewing the Add or remove a search engine in Firefox documentation.
I only use duckduckgo. I know how to set default search engines!
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem like there is anything that we can do you help you with this. Firefox is simply suggesting the Amazon website based on something in your Firefox data.
It's not a standard suggestion for a clean profile and Mozilla is not owned by Amazon.
I appreciate your responses.
I just migrated to Firefox and had a completely clean installation. Deleted everything related to the old browser first.
Did you import any data from your other browser? Did you ever have Firefox installed on your computer before?
Information in your Firefox profile is saved on your computer even after you removed Firefox. Therefore, if you had Firefox before, but removed it, that data would still be there.
In answer to your questions...No and No.
I have grown weary of this discussion. I have been in IT since 1974 and have always found solutions to pesky bugs.
You have said it "Unfortunately, there doesn't seem like there is anything that we can do you help you with this."
Anybody else have a viable solution?
Firefox comes with a builtin default list of 'topsites' that is used for the location/address bar in case no history is available (Bug 1211726). However this feature seems to be disabled by default.
- browser.urlbar.usepreloadedtopurls.enabled [false]
- chrome://global/content/unifiedcomplete-top-urls.json

Why can't I delete it?
