I cannot upload to Academia.Edu as it tells me there is a Bug with Mozilla Firefox

In December 2018 I tried to upload a paper to Academia.Edu but received a message to say , upload failed. It may have been the size of the text + diagrams but was not the largest I had previously sent. This February I tried again with the same result. But now Academia.Edu state there is a bug with Mozilla Firefox. Wonderful, would you not think two such large organizations could not get their act together to sort this out. All I get is try this, try that, but no acknowledgement of their culpability. I have tried to use other browsers etc. to no avail. I do not think it is my responsibility to chase around when these systems do not work. Perhaps its about time they stood up to their responsibility when offering their services which obviously do not work in this instance. I look forward to assistance and comments from both parties and help from you all

McCoy, thanks but I have tried everything for two days now and nowt will allow the full text and diagrams to load. Yes it stops at about 90% and the transfer dies. What annoys me is that Academia flag up its a Mozilla bug and has been there since last December as my trying to upload proves. Will nobody at Mozilla contact Academia and find out what the hell is going on or does everybody just sit behind their computer and send messages hoping somebody will sort it out.

When you're on that site, would you try this please :

Clear the Firefox cache :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cache

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/delete-cookies-remove-info-websites-stored (scroll down to : "Delete cookies for a single site")

Would you also check your settings here :

3-bar menu (or Tools) => Options => Privacy & Security => Content Blocking

What security software do you have?

Make sure that it isn't blocking the upload.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

I printed out the instructions to be certain and followed them to the letter. Guess what, nowt works yet again. I still do not understand why i have to do anything when Academia Edu states there is a bug with Mozilla firefox for upoloading texts. Surely it is up to MF to correct the problem for me not me keep chasing around to do the work for two days.

Hi, no , when I upload it stops at about 90%. If I go to Academia problems page for uploads it tells me that there is a bug with Mozilla Firefox. I have contacted Academia and they were as much help as MF have been so far which is zilch! I have done everything I have been asked to do by both sites and irt still does not work. A message to me saying glad it has been solved is sheer balderdash, it has not and i do not understand from what I have said how that can be construed as correct. Somebody solve it please.

McCoy, thanks but I could not contact you direct as it kept saying no reply. You have been so very helpful and I have tried everything you have asked. Believe me I am more frustrated than you and it causes me real problems. If I could send you a bunch of flowers I would, as i realize everybody is trying to help, you particularly. By now you will realize I am English, in France, and NOWT is a slang term meaning "absolutely nothing at all" as in the statement "I want nowt to do with this", it saves words. Now be a real Angel and solve it for me, best wishes Michael

Hi to you all. I have just received an email from Academia stating they know the problem exists and it covers several countries and are working to solve the issue. At least I now know I have spent 72 hours for nothing and you people have been so very kind in trying to assist me. It raises more problems for me in the wider sense in that why certain countries, is it an attack, or are our country area, say Europe complacent with the safeguards we use, ie the programmes and do they require to be told infiltration is happening. OH dear , no I do not have a victim complex, its just I do not know and what worries me is nobody else knows!!!

"We are currently experiencing an issue where users from some countries may have trouble uploading papers to the site. Here are some possible workarounds to get your paper uploaded to Academia. However, please be aware these options are not guaranteed to work.

- Try uploading again in 10-15 minutes. - Reduce the size of your upload, such as compressing quality or reducing pages to upload. - If you have a VPN or other region-changing software, set your VPN to a point in the United States or Canada.

While we are currently working on resolving this issue, unfortunately the bug has proven to be extremely complex and we do not have a set date for when it will be resolved. Again, we apologize for the frustration that this has caused."

If somebody with the knowledge i do not have about systems could give me a simple explanation of what it could be and why it affects only certain countries I would like to learn as i have no such experience of this phenomena. Do I for instance take from it that certain countries are being targeted for fun or some nerd has taken a dislike to us?

After I received their email, I sent them another email, asking them to post here in this thread, but the answer I got was that they only wanted to reply via email, but to feel free to post their first email in this thread. Which I did ......

McCoy, you and the rest of the MF coterie have been great, no apologies, I just have to get the frustration out of my system, particularly as I do not understand any of it. Everybody have a great time and i look forward to reading one day that the problem has been solved. Sincerely Michael

It's never good to keep things bottled up inside - whenever you feel the need to vent : go right ahead.
