Shop Safe (a bankofamerica.com feature) won't load.

Размещено

When logged into www.bankofamerica.com and after selecting an account, I use "Shop Safe", a feature that provides a made-up CC number, a $ limit of my choice, expiration date of my choice, and a CVC1 code. This CC number is good for ONE TIME ONLY use. It sends money from my "real" CC account without revealing my "real" CC number and other details! Recently, even though updated Fire Fox browser is operating normally, the little "Shop Safe" window that appears will not "transfer data" like it once did. Their URL is not loading correctly...it tries to load, but nothing shows up inside the small web page. Here is the (partially edited) URL that makes that happen ...

https://shopsafe.bankofamerica.com/Athena/HTMLServlet ... some stuff edited out here ... then ends with Transparency_Indicator=0

I am unable to edit this URL. I can copy it however...just didn't want to put the complete URL in here for now.

This feature works OK in a Chrome browser, but only AFTER I "Click to Enable Adobe Flash" on a funny little symbol

in the middle of the blank space, and resubmit the page. After doing that once, I don't have to do it again it seems.

I have to do the same thing in an Edge browser (a little sign comes up in both saying "Click to Enable Adobe Flash". After clicking the symbol, I am asked to "Resend" to get the Shop Safe contents to show up in the window.

I don't get that little prompt message and funny symbol when using Fire Fox. I looked around Fire Fox and found a "switch" program to turn off/on Javascript (there is now a little "JS" symbol in the tool bar). Javascript is required by the main BankofAmerica web page, so I leave the JS switch in the on position.

QUESTION: How do I check to see if Adobe Flash is enabled in Fire Fox (I think it's turned off by default) ??? If it is not on and the "work around API" doesn't work, how can I turn on Adobe Flash in order to use Shop Safe. I'll turn it off again if I need to. I read that Fire Fox doesn't consider Adobe Flash safe, but I seem to need it for this use.

Thanks very much for your help. I'll look for an answer via eMail please. HEA1

Just in case Adobe Flash is not installed on your system (which sounds unlikely, as you enabled it using Edge and Chrome .... ), here's where you can download Adobe Flash (which is not an add-on from the addons.mozilla.org page, as it is a plugin) :

https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/

(some 'extras' may be offered in the download)

In the first part of my previous post I explained where you can find it in Firefox (as 'Shockwave Flash').

But you take all the time you need trying to figure this out.

Hello HEA1,

Your system details don't show 'Shockware Flash' (that's what Adobe Flash is called in Firefox), but as you're able to activate Flash in both Chrome and Edge - it must be installed on your computer.

Would you do this please :

Go to the 3-bar menu (three horizontal lines in the upper right corner) => Add-ons => Plugins.

You should see 'Shockwave Flash' there - set it to 'Always Activate'.

Then close and restart Firefox.

Any difference  ?

Separate issue :

I noticed in your system details that you have this extension installed :

SearchLock 1.2.1

Did you install it yourself  ? If you look at the reviews, you'll know why I'm asking :

Hello McCoy! Wow...that was fast. And I'm glad to hear about "SearchLock"...sounds controversial.

1. I Found SearchLock and Disabled it. I didn't remove it tonight, but will do some additional research tomorrow. Don't know how it got there. Offhand it sounds like it provides a "useful" function to delete search requests and results from various places in a computer. I might have added it some time ago while curiously poking around in Settings or Add-ons. I did find at that time several obscure areas in browsers and even Windows that store search requests forever and are not easily cleared out. Not good!

2. I looked at Add-ons and Extensions and didn't find an official Adobe Flash option. I DID find that Fire Fox is getting away from Adobe Flash and Player if possible, but it said it should still be "available". I found several "More..." and "Setting wheels" to find additional Add-ons, but didn't find a recommended Shockwave Flash (or Adobe Flash).

One place said I could install any Extension or Add-in from a "file". Windows says there is no Adobe Flash or Shockwave installed in my Windows "Apps or Programs" so won't pursue that tonight.

I found one note in a Fire Fox Add-ins dialog that said: "On some sites, you'll see just a blank rectangle, and the plugin notification icon will appear toward the left end of the address bar."

I looked again while on that blank page and I don't see anything that looks like an Icon so am temporarily giving up tonight. Sounds like we're on the right track however.

It's too late to think straight tonight about this...I have an early morning meeting as well. Will continue the search tomorrow.

When Chrome and Edge showed me the Adobe Flash symbol in the middle of the blank space in their browsers, it took a few seconds for Flash to load, then required me to "Resend" the URL. It's possible Flash was loaded into their browsers from the Internet somehow. As I said, I didn't need to load it again after that using their browsers.

My best guess is I'll need to "find" Shock Wave Flash in FF somewhere (I have "Quantum" version 63.0 installed!) or find Adobe Flash somewhere and install it from a download file (??).

I searched for all available "Adobe Flash" Add-ons in the Fire Fox Add-ons extras suggestions and found 382 possible programs to choose from. Didn't recognize a one!!! Most of those had very few installations.

Thanks again...can we talk via email Thursday afternoon perhaps?? Why doesn't "Quantum" have an API that replaces Flash?? Or maybe there is one, but the Bank of America page doesn't recognize it?? I may have to download a version of Flash from Adobe tomorrow and install it in Fire Fox somehow. (That will be a new procedure to me).

Real McCoy!

Thanks for your patience. I've been to a 7:30 AM bank security meeting where we were told the US Gov is decreeing that all Kaspersky AV be removed from gov access computers. Word to the wise even thought they get great marks. I have removed Bit Defender...will go with MalwareBytes sole and Windows Defender as AV programs for now (and continue with Ad-Guard).

I checked (again) for Shockwave Flash in Plug-ins. It is NOT there...there is only one Plug-in offering shown in my Fire Fox Ver. 63 Quantum and it's not a Flash. I clicked on "More..." and searched for "Flash" = 300 some hits...don't recognize any of them. I searched for "Shockwave" and found 13 hits. None of them are familiar. Some have only 32 installs with ratings of less than 4. Not for me.

I am of the opinion Fire Fox has dropped ALL support for Shockwave Flash as of Version 63 installed two days ago and won't "recommend" Get.Adobe.com as a source in it's search function either.

If you or your contacts can confirm the above statement, great. If not, how do I get Fire Fox to provide it to me as a Plug-in option??? I either completely uninstall Fire Fox browser and ALL it's pieces including file fragments in Programs, Reboot, reinstall version 63 again, and look again, OR...just bite the bullet and install official Flash from official Get.Adobe.com (declining the "extras" if possible).

For now, I'm going to do the latter! It's quicker and if you come up with a Shockwave Flash plug-in option built into Fire Fox somewhere somehow, I'll gladly use that and uninstall the Adobe version from Windows.

I'll let you know if this works in the BOA, Shop Safe module, which is the objective. I'll try to keep Adobe Flash from corrupting my computer somehow (??) All your comments are very valuable...stand by for news. Thanks for your patient spirit and hand-holding!!

HEA1

Hello again HEA1,

If Shockwave Flash is not present in the 3-bar menu => Add-ons => Plugins and is not installed on your system (which you can check in Windows Control Panel), then may I suggest that you download Adobe Flash from the link I gave you earlier  ?

Off topic, but since you mentioned Kaspersky : a major pain in the derrière (personal opinion) .......

Would you please take a look at tis :

And also : https://www.howtogeek.com/239950/dont-use-your-antivirus-browser-extensions-they-can-actually-make-you-less-safe/

(I'm happy with Windows built-in Defender and that's the only security software I use)

Real McCoy,

The "quickest" solution option I outlined above WORKS. I downloaded Adobe Flash from Get.Adobe.Com, version 31.0 r0, installed it (unchecking the Norton and McAfee offers!!), Closed FF, reopened FF, went to the FF browser three bars menu, clicked Add-ons, checked Plug-Ins, now there are two. NOW THERE WAS Shockwave Flash...a Plug-in option in FF. ("Ask to Activate" was selected).

I entered the BOA site, selected the Shop Safe module, and low and behold, the Adobe Flash Player ICON appeared. I clicked it which loaded the Flash Plug-In and Shop Safe runs fine...just like what happened in the other browsers.

THANK YOU...HUGE KUDOS for your help! (If you aren't concerned about why this module was missing in my very recent FF update, this will be the end of this issue...SOLVED. Well done! HEA1

PS: I'll read up on AV effects, and possibly harmful Plug-Ins. I can control Flash by selecting "Ask to Activate" each time I need it I suppose. Malwarebytes has an anti Ransomware module that says it can stop the installation of file encryption before it starts (same claim that BitDefender made). Windows Defender wasn't that good in Windows 7, so I have not paid attention to it in Windows 10 except to be sure it was turned on. I'll look at some reviews and of course your recommendation is very valuable to me.

For your information, the Bank Security Analysis seminar this morning was excellent. Put the fear of Phishing and Fraud into all of us Business attendees. Gave us some great hints and tools--like buy American AV even if expensive and even if you use Apple products!! Hint...stop writing paper checks ...your routing and account info is on every check you write. Use Bill Pay or Auto Pay with eMail alerts.

Important Actions: #1. Use 2 factor ID on all serious web sites, and #2. Use Positive Pay program with your bank if you continue to send out paper or business checks. (You tell the bank at the end of each day who you sent checks to: check number, and amount. Bank automatically compares YOUR information with the Payee's information as the check is cashed. If info doesn't match, check will be refused on the spot!} Hmmm.

Thanks again, HEA1
