Browser was being slow. I clicked on something and then it said it couldn’t find my profile. Now it’s using 62 and everything is gone. I keep trying to go back to old Firefox data to no avail. I am so screwed. What now?

Hi

It sounds like either you have resintalled Firefox for Android, or have selected the clear data option in the Settings menu for that application.

Either way, there is no way that i am aware of that will recover your bookmarks and data.

Hi marcnathan314, what system has the problem? You posted under Android, from a browser on an iOS device, but you mentioned Old Firefox Data, which sounds like a folder on Windows, MacOS or Linux.

???

we are talking MacOS, not Android. Thanks.

It's starting to look like Mozilla needs to consider keeping backups of old sync data for a short period of time in case of screw ups like this. Yesterday after my browser crashed, YEARS worth of bookmarks disappeared, which it then synced. And judging by the fact that my question here got zero replies, it looks like I just have to accept the fact that a lifetime of bookmarks are now gone thanks to Firefox for Android crashing, it's freaking heart breaking. I'm not sure where people can make suggestions to Mozilla but I highly suggest that they add some more power to sync so that people can recover from screw ups like this.

Hi marcnathan314, sorry I wasn't able to get to the forum until now.

Does Firefox run at all? You might need to create a new profile to get going. This article has the steps for starting Firefox up in the Profile Manager and creating a new (not yet customized) profile: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles.

Whoops, I meant to add part two!

Your system may contain your old profile data. The most common places to find that are:

(A) On your desktop, in a folder named Old Firefox Data, which is created during a Refresh

(B) In this hidden folder:

~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile folder>

For more information on how to locate profile folders, see: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.

So you should find at least one folder there, which is your brand new profile folder, and you are looking for any older ones that main contain your real data.

Can you find one?

Hi Zero22xx, unfortunately, the Sync service was not designed with any kind of roll-back for Sync glitches. I don't know the future plans for it, and they may take a long time to roll out, so regular backups of your desktop system would be your best hope.

To submit feedback and suggestions, if you don't discover something more specific to Sync, you can use any of these (depending on whether you want a suggestion box or a discussion):

Thanks jscher2000. I've been to the Reddit link that you provided (I spend most of my time on Reddit) and my post was removed and I was told that /r/firefox has nothing to do with Mozilla officially and I should go elsewhere.

Unfortunately I've had a week of bad timing because my hard drive crashed and I am unable to access anything on my desktop PC. I'll definitely follow your link to provide feedback because after this experience, I feel like it is of utmost importance for Mozilla to provide roll-back features to sync. It's kinda unacceptable that this could happen in the first place. Not so long ago I didn't even own a PC and my mobile phone was my only source of internet access. Firefox for Android needs to be able to stand on it's own as a browser without Mozilla taking for granted that everyone has a PC (especially in 3rd world countries) and sync needs to be not so one track minded.

Thank you for the response, I hope that the dev team listens to reason so that this kind of thing can be avoided in future for others like me.
