What difference would it make now? The "ship has sailed" - IOW that Description field is gone from Firefox already.

Plus the "job description" for developer doesn't include justifying changes made in Firefox to end users of Firefox. Chrome does not have a description of the bookmarks, just like all Windows browsers that integrate into the system. And it's very inconvenient.

In our world, no one owes nothing to anyone. But if you position your work as a work for the consumer, be kind enough to explain what and why you are doing, as well as not just listen to the opinions of this very consumer but also put them at the head of your work. Yes, the train left. But how much negativity has poured onto the developer's head? After all, a simply motivated explanation of one's actions immediately removes most of the tension.

Ed, you're wrong and you aren't moderate. Perhaps you need to relax. A developer doesn't need to justify changes but they should make sure they are good changes. Perhaps Mozilla could be more like Apple and let people know what the next changes are going to entail. It does mean that people should stop using automatic upgrades!! Wait for awhile after an upgrade and see what the problems are. Meanwhile, back at the ranch:

How to get 'er back. First off Mozilla is going the way of Microsoft and doing it their way and not how you want it. To get back you "properties" with all the remarks in them you will have to go backwards. I just did this the other day when I found more complaints. The version you will end up with is 60.2.0esr (extended service release) which is for corporations that can't upgrade all the time. If you go to: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ pick you language and operating system, download the file (it should say firefox setup 60.2.0esr) and then install it. I didn't even have to delete the 62.0 as it installed right over it. I have my properties back with all the notes still in them. Mozilla may not like this reply and delete it. Hope it helps you as it worked for me.

Two thoughts come to mind after all of this:

1) There is virtually clarification on WHY this field was removed, almost like they are afraid admit to a vulnerability or something. Is just odd!

2) Why not remove the field or have it hidden by default, but at least give an option to make use of it/restore it.

Mozilla will offer an Extended Support Release (ESR) based on a regular release of Firefox for desktop for use by organizations including schools, universities, businesses and others who need extended support for mass deployments.

I figure if it's good enough for schools, universities, businesses and others, it's good enough for me. I might be wrong but won't let Mozilla automatically update EVER again. Better to wait and see what all the problems are instead of getting all upset. My heart may just not be able to take it.

It will have feature stability and get critical security updates for 10-12 months, so this change won't come until next Fall. Firefox 61.x, on the other hand, won't get any security updates.

So you should set Firefox to let you choose when to install updates, and then you can confirm each one as it becomes available that it's within the Firefox 60 ESR series and not the next major update.

As for what Firefox 68 will look like, I have no idea.

I'm going to lock this thread as it's turned into insults and name calling. The bookmarks description was removed, there are several workable alternatives. ESR is not meant for home use, updates should not be disabled.

I'm sorry for the confusion and the controversy, but the decision has been made and won't be reversed. Please use one of the alternatives above.
