importing Profiles

I am having a real problem importing my profile. I am using a mac and firefox 47. I was using 48 but was unable to get it to load without crashing on start up. I copied my profile and installed 47, I have spent about 2 days on the Mozilla help pages trying to get the old profile to install and work. When I installed FF I copied the 28 files across to the new profile folder, no luck, I have created multiple profiles no luck. Followed all the hints and tips in the help online section but have got nowhere. Any ideas where I have gone wrong? Regards

Hi Kilpheder, did you copy an old profile folder into the Profiles folder, alongside the new one? As you can see, Firefox has no idea it's there. In order to trigger Firefox to discover it, you can remove a settings file. Here's how:

From within Firefox, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Show in Finder" button.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Quit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Quit
  • (menu bar) Firefox > Quit

Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then in Finder, move up from the Profiles folder to the Firefox folder.

In that folder, you should find a file named Profiles.ini -- rename that file to ProfilesOLD.ini and the next time you start Firefox, it should check the available folders under Profiles and offer you a choice of the one you want to use.

Does that work?
