I've tried following several of the threads with no luck. All I have of my bookmarks is a .bak file that I think was created at a restore point just before my system had its fatal crash, and everything I've seen so far wants to import from an HTML file. I'm going to have to put this issue aside for a little while so I don't throw my laptop against a wall, and go reheat my coffee and let my brain take a break while I drink it. Thanks!

What kind of bak file are you talking about? Where did you find this file and what is the full file name and location of this file? Is that a backup you created yourself?

I tried the "restore bookmarks from backup" thread and all my bookmarks came thru as CSV items; no links anywhere. The file I'm working with is : "C:\\Windows.old\Users\Theresa\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default" because when I search for bookmarks this is what comes up as "Bookmarks.bak". Gotta admit I'm lost. Perhaps the best option is to download Google, sign in, export my bookmarks as an HTML file, import them to Firefox, then remove Google and clean all references to it out of the registry.

Hi, yes it is unlikely that Firefox would read a backup file from another application.

Did you try installing Google Chrome, getting the bookmarks & then importing them?

Note to import into Firefox, you can also go to Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks, and then from the right hand-button, select "Import data from another browser".

Try to open that file in a text editor and view the first few lines of code.

If it starts like that just change the .bak to .html and import that file into Firefox - see this. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/import-bookmarks-html-file

The location you posted is a link to the Google Chrome profile folder. Google Chrome stores its bookmarks in a JSON file (Bookmarks and Bookmarks.bak). As posted above, Firefox can't do much with this file unless you use the import wizard to read data from Google Chrome. Otherwise your only option is to install Google Chrome and export the Chrome bookmarks to an HTML file.

I have reinstalled Google and am using it for a few days. I will then export the bookmarks file to an HTML file and try again with Firefox. I will admit I got frustrated with it, and none of my young'uns were around. But now I know how to do it right.
