Just a personal opinion, but its unlikely, seeming as Firefox seems pretty heavily focused on privacy and security anyways, meaning its alot less likely anything nasty will get past their browser.

If security still is a concern though, there's a couple things to consider.

  1. McAfee is bit sketchy. They've had a few controversies in the past, so it may not be recommendable to purchase software from them to protect your PC. If I were you, I'd probably get Avast. I've used it, and its a solid anti-virus with a good record. Plus the base version is free, so no need to fork over cash.
  1. Window does have its own Anti-Virus. You've tagged this with Windows 7, so Im assuming that's your OS. So there's two things to be aware off.

1) Windows Security Essentials: You can download it for free here for your OS. Whilst its not the most outstanding amongst the AV Crowd, it has been given awards for being the best Free Antivirus by PC Advisor and a Bronze Award from AV-Comparatives. So as far as free goes, it appears to be better than most.

2) If you'd be willing to switch/upgrade to Windows 10 by getting an install disc, maybe get one from a friend if they have one.

Or even buy one if you're willing, you could buy one as their only £20 on Amazon Amazon straight from Microsoft themselves, so they can be had relatively cheaply nowadays), you'd get their free Windows Defender which is both:

  • Built right into the OS
  • Generally regarded as good when paired with a decent Anti-Malware like MalwareBytes, and it does a solid job defending against most threats. Admittedly its not considered the best, but in general its regarded as not bad.

So yeah. All in all, you may or may not need Anti-Virus. Most people would recommend having one anyways, so if you're really concerned, maybe get Avast. Bear in mind this is mostly just my personal opinion. Hope it helps you make a choice regardless.

Good luck.

Thank you kindly for your rapid response and recommendation. I have not ever heard of Avast. I always welcome an effective product, for free. :-)

Greatly appreciate the input you offered!

Hey, glad I can have helped. I've spent alot of my time looking about for things to improve my PC's security (Im a bit on the paranoid side truth be told about that lol) so I think I've accumulated a fair bit of knowledge.

Again, glad I can have helped. Good luck with keeping things secure.
