That is my bug report thanks, i will have to use a different computer that i havent done the work around on to check the search engine extractor, because on this one, my primary computer, i did the work around and got yahoo added back but it still says google is default and i hate google lol

ok from a computer that i did not do the work around on, yahoo isnt listed in that search engine extractor. attached is the print screen from it

Thank you for checking that. Somehow the built-in yahoo.xml search plugin file is getting overlooked when the file is updated or rebuilt. Only one out the eight. ??!!

I wasn't able to replicate the problem (by deleting search.json.mozlz4) so it still seems to be occurring selectively.

I honestly think it might have something to do with location. The one other person that Happy found was also in the US , Im going to ask where they are located.

Yahoo did the disappearing act on me too, and I'm not in the US .....

Happy, thanks for posting about the deal in the other thread. I looked it up and wow what a bad deal. But still going back to google shouldnt make yahoo disappear altogether

I don't think that 'deal' is related to what we're dealing with now - although, I must admit that a conspicary theory has crossed my mind, but I disregarded it right away - would be too far-fetched .....

You're so right - bad in many ways ...... and expensive  !

We only know about Yahoo's mysterious disappearance because users, who have/had Yahoo as their (default) search engine, reported it here.

I would never have known that it did the disappearance act on me too, as I never use(d) Yahoo, and I wonder how many other users will no longer have Yahoo listed in Options => Search => One-Click Search Engines.

The cases we know about now, might just be the tip of the iceberg ......

Yeah I think so. Plus there are users who wont report anything because they dont care enough what search they use or who think oh well someone else is reporting it

This has to do with Firefox requesting an update file via the browser.search.geoSpecificDefaults.url pref. The current response doesn't include Yahoo as a visible search engine, so it is hidden.

You can set browser.search.geoSpecificDefaults.url to this data URI to include Yahoo as a visible search engine. You need to remove sessionstore.jsonlz4 in the profile folder with Firefox closed.

EDIT: You probably need to set browser.search.geoSpecificDefaults = false as well.

Why would they hide yahoo though? and do i copy paste that last string into the file you mention or just delete the old one? Step by step instructions are always good

Also under firefox updates there is a select box automatically update search engines, its good once you get yahoo set to unselect that box.

Does that mean that if you turn off the "geo-specific" feature, you will get the full list again, the next time you regenerate search.json.mozlz4?

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful or accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box above the list, type or paste geos and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the browser.search.geoSpecificDefaults preference to switch the value from true to false
