For no reason, a few days ago I suddenly started having a problem with the message "A website is slowing down your browser. What would you like to do?" I tried everything suggested on any site which Google listed for this issue.

The page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1138132 mentioned something about Adobe Flash. That solution didn't work but it did prompt me to check my Firefox plugins. Once it I did, I saw that it said that the Shockwave Flash plugin (ver 27.0.r0) was out of date since it posed a security issue. I installed the latest Shockwave Flash (28.0.r0) and the Firefox messages stopped appearing (and YouTube seems to be running faster than ever). Problem solved me at least.

If anyone else is having this problem, you might want to check out your Adobe Flash plug-in to see if its out of date.

Btw, Mozilla has it set up so that a thread can only be replied to if you're registered with Mozilla support (which is understandable)......but the ONLY way they will let you register with them is by first posting a question. Duhhh -- that makes NO sense So Mozilla, what if you aren't registered but you DO have a solution to other people's questions (such as my case)?

Hello Diamondhead58! You already solved both of your problems with a workaround! But for anybody else, after going through a maze of links, you will eventually plop out at this link. Why Mozilla removed the registration button out of plain sight, is unclear to me... Please mark this post as answered so other people will be able to register without going through all the fuss we had to.

Or clicking the button to help out -- maybe "I have the answer!" should be added here:

I'm the one who posted this solution about updating Shockwave Flash plug-in. I've been using the free version of Avast security software for over 10 years, and so far, it's never affected Firefox's performance in the slightest (according to speedtest.net and my own daily experience). Perhaps some of Avast's for-pay features (I'm only using their "disk cleanup" for-pay feature) might affect Firefox -- but as of yet, it never has.

As for AVG security software, I wouldn't put it past that that bag of worms might affect Firefox's performance.  :)
