why is thunderbird not getting new or updated addons/ extentions
I have the latest version of Thunderbird but it does not look like the addons/ or extentions are being updated to match the current version

Any particular add-ons? Even though the add-on webpage may state it's only compatible with a TB version lower than 52, it very often works in the current release. Drag the 'Download Anyway' link and drop it onto Tools/Add-ons/Extensions to install and see if it functions properly.
Current version as in Thunderbird 52.6.0 or do you mean Beta builds of Thunderbird 58.0
Extension authors may only support current Releases and not test builds.
