The problem is that my computer (deskside W10), thinks its in Loughborough when it is actually in East Sussex. Does it have to be defined by my router's owner? None of the info provided enabled me to alter matters.

Unless the computer has GPS, it has no idea where it is. This information is gathered from your ISP. There are times when the information is not accurate.

How is your location reported by the above posted websites?

If that location is wrong then check your connection settings. If your reported IP is correct then contact your ISP for support.

I fully understand that my ISP is based in the midlands. My computer is fixed in East Sussex. How can I tell my computer that it is in East Sussex and have it remember the fact? This would be useful for searches for various services which are currently of no use to me because my computer tells the search engines that I am in the midlands. Isn't this a simple problem?

Like why can't I set window sizes individually in Windows 10? It can't be rocket science as XP did it from the start?? And I mean setting different window sizes for different folders according to the folder contents and having the system remember the sizes thereafter. Am I alone in these problems?

No. It is not Firefox doing any of the reporting other than telling where you are from the location your computer provides through your Network Card via your ISP.

If you want better searching create a account for the search engine you use and it will retain that information. You will have to login though each time to get more accurate searching.

The 2nd part is a Windows 10 issue and not a Mozilla Firefox Support Issue. It is a big jump from XP to WIndows 10. The answer to your question though is that it should remember most window sizes but not all. It does more of a Global Sizing.

Hi, check the security program (antivirus) on your PC and turn off any privacy settings and/or things that are browser related. If necessary disable it and test on a safe site.

What happens using another browser?

I don't know whether fingerprinting changes your location.

You can check this pref on the about:config page and set it false if it is currently true.

Sadly the privacy.resist is already set false. But thanks for the advice.

If your ISP connects you via a gateway that locates you in the midlands then there is not much you can do about this apart from asking your ISP if they can't provide you with an IP that locates you in a location that is more precise.

SOLUTION : How to set your location manually in Firefox ? Sometimes you have to think wider. Firefox is used in Windows OS. Who's giving instructions to Firefox ? : Windows. So that's where you have to look for the problem. Your computer has no GPS ? Fine. Just Set the default location in Windows. So :

1. Install Windows Maps (Microsoft Corporation) from the Microsoft Store.
2. Now from Windows -> Start Menu -> Settings (Gear Icon) -> Location, set the Location Service ON.
3. Define the Default Location (this will open Microsoft Maps you just installed).

And there you go. All your applications will use the default Maps location set as your "GPS" location. No matter if you use a VPN, Elite Proxies, Tor or whatever.
