Google translator has always worked great in chrome. I installed it in firefox.. however when I use it ... it pops up to another page saying the page is already in English... when it is not and nothing has changed. Thanks.

I never said that the translator worked ...........and it still does not.

Just to be 100% clear, Firefox does not have a built-in translator. There are some unofficial add-ons to add that feature, and apparently at least one of them does not work for you. The way most add-ons work is to send the URL of the current page to Google Translate in a new tab. Seems simple??

Google chrome can set up to open multiple web pages when you open it and is so much easier to use and understand.

There are three ways to do that in Firefox:

(1) Add multiple pages as your home page (How to set the home page). These will appear in every new window, which may be overkill depending on your selection of pages.

(2) Pin those tabs so they open again in every session (Pinned Tabs - keep favorite websites open and just a click away). Important: do not clear history at shutdown if you use this setting.

(3) Add the URLs to the desktop shortcut you use to start Firefox (detailed steps: How do I open 2 websites on startup and 1 website when clicking the home button?). These pages will appear any time you use that icon.

I've heard Chrome doesn't require editing the shortcut but lets you create a separate list of pages to open at startup in its settings. If true, that's definitely easier to set up.

Apparently you're one of the top dogs at firefox and you feel it's necessary to fall on your sword. Me... I have no ties or feelings for something that is slightly botched.

I'm a frequent contributor here on the support site, but I'm nobody at Mozilla. I don't think I'm falling on a sword for anyone. All software has flaws, and you just have to bend it to your will as best you can, and settle on a combination of tools that works best for your needs. It's good to have choices, and in the end, we all have our very personal reasons for what we use. It definitely makes Firefox users sad when mass market needs trump individual preferences. But if you think unhappy trade-offs are unique to Mozilla and Microsoft, you haven't been reading all the angry posts on Google's forums.

Seems to me there should be no reason that ad on's should not work especially from google. It's not from Joe schmoe or other off brand.

There is no official Google Translate add-on for Firefox as far as I know. They have zero incentive to help Firefox users in any way! To learn more about the extensions and their developers, you can visit their description/review pages on the Add-ons site. I just use firefox to open a seperate browser for my facebook as you can't have 2 open using the same browser...that I know of at the same time.

All browsers that have private/incognito windows allow you to log in as user1 in a regular window and user2 in a private/incognito window. Have you ever tried it? Some extensions may be disabled or have reduced functionality in incognito windows, so if things feel broken, you'll still have to use two browsers.

I'm not even going to reiterate what was in my previous message that seems to of had a different language to you. However.... I will thankyou very much for the "in private" thingy. I never knew what that was for. I just figured it was for people who want to look at all sorts of porn without getting caught.... No use for me!!! Guess I'll try that and see if I can reload that in Chrome and save it. Then my troubles with the translation will be fixed. Thanks so much. Tim
