As per the header, Thunderbird updated itself to version 52.1.1 and I then tried to create a new message filter, but no matter what I do, It says I have no folders to move messages to...

I tried restarting with add-ons disabled?

Any and all suggestions considered, thanks for any help.

Actually, although I noticed it on message filters, the folders are not available anywhere... ie settings for saving a sent email in a folder etc...

Oh, looking at the error console I see: NS_ERROR_FAILURE: Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIMsgFolder.server] in folderPane.js and folderUtils.jsm

Try the following:

In thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'Open Folder' button

A new window opens showing the contents of your 'profile name' folder.

Close thunderbird now - this is important.

delete the following files:

  • panacea.dat
  • session.json

Start thunderbird.

Please report back on results.

Hi, Tried what you suggested, but it changed nothing, the folders are still not selectable, or visible in the dropdown lists...

I don't believe the issue you point to is my problem.. the folder pane is fine, its when I need to select a folder for various settings that I don't get a choice at all.

I tried to add pictures to show this problem... Hopefully they are visible.

OK, I tried both of these, and neither helped out...

Interesting to see what changed when they were removed, clearly the folder pane changed...

Just to reiterate, its not the folder pane that is not working, its a list of folders in various setting windows, ie the message filters, or standard email settings for where copies get saved.

thanks for the suggestions though...

Is this an 'Imap' or 'pop' mail account? If pop is it set up as a deferred account, commonly called a 'Global Inbox' account using 'Local Folders' Inbox ? What OS are you using?

Right click on mail account in Folder Pane and select 'Settings' select 'Server Settings' bottom right is 'Local directory' click in text box, highlight all the text - keep going to the right until the end as some text is not fully displayed. Copy paste the text into this forum reply box.
