Perhaps you grabbed a particularly ancient version??

If you want the pre-August 2016 version of the Yahoo toolbar, here's how I suggest going about it:

(1) Remove the ancient toolbar on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right side find and remove the Yahoo extensions.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled/removed extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

(2) Install version 3.2.18.20160725095733 -- the July 26th version -- of the toolbar from the following page:

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar-and-new-tab/versions/ -- it's currently the second one down

Before restarting Firefox, go back to the Add-ons page, click the More link under the Yahoo Toolbar extension, and turn off automatic updating. (In case you closed the page...)

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Find Yahoo toolbar on the right side and click the tiny More link under the title, then on that page, find the row for Automatic Updates and set it to Off.

Then you can use the restart link for the toolbar to complete the installation.

Success?

I found this link in my history (opened Show All History, in the search box entered yahoo xpi and this match showed up, then right-click > Open in New Tab to confirm it still worked, then canceled the install and copied from the address bar):

https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/addons/2032/yahoo_toolbar-3.2.18.20160725095733-fx.xpi?filehash=sha256%3A44741eaa645920a898dd8a534cdec62ea812f6a8345ed09d23588c92d8b80b76

Mozilla is the company as Firefox is name of the web browser. Yahoo is the author who makes and maintains this Yahoo toolbar Extension and I guess Yahoo decided to do some cleaning up to force the new version on people in new extension installs.

There appears to be a big gap between May 7, 2014 and July 29, 2016 as versions like 3.2.18 is not listed anymore. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/yahoo-toolbar-and-new-tab/versions/

Actually Verizon could technically be the author and reason for the Yahoo toolbar change as Yahoo sold company to Verizon for $4.8 billion some three weeks ago even though they were worth way more in the past.

Hi Brwashington477, can you download the old toolbar by right-clicking the above very long link (on this site, not in an email notification) and using Save Link As?

If that works, you can install it from the Add-ons page by clicking the "gear" button above the add-ons list and choose Install Add-on from File.

All I get is a 162 bytes file and cannot be opened by archive and I tried Leafpad and get a 404 Not Found

Hmm, maybe that hash is somehow specific to my Firefox profile. It doesn't work without the hash, and it doesn't work with or without the hash in Chrome on my system. I don't understand.

It's too late. Yahoo removed the old extension last week. Please complain to Yahoo about their new bar not being customizable.

If you need a way to add buttons to visit websites, you could use Firefox's Bookmarks Toolbar: Bookmarks Toolbar - Display your favorite websites at the top of the Firefox window.

I don't know whether there are any add-ons to show Yahoo Bookmarks on the toolbar (without importing them into Firefox bookmarks). I didn't see any in a search on the Add-ons site the other day.
