In Thunderbird I prefer to have my latest emails on top and the earlier ones below. When I read and delete, I read the bottom ones first, so when I delete an email I want the next one ABOVE to show up. I can't figure out how to do this on 38.7.0.

You think 38.7.0 works differently to prior versions?

I am a new user of Thunderbird so I have no idea how previous versions worked, but I think it was possible in previous versions from some of the things I have read. I just switched from Apple Mail, and in Mail this was possible.

No, I don't know how to change what "next" and "previous" mean to Thunderbird. I'm not aware of any settings for this, which is why I was asking if you had seen a change in behaviour.

I don't have this problem because I simply read messages in the pane below the message list. I deal with the unwanted messages first; after that it doesn't matter to me in what order the good messages open.

Are you double-clicking your messages to open them in a tab or new window?
