Starting today, Firefox crashes anytime I click on the url bar or bookmarks. If I click the home button, google will load. I can access the options. Using release 44.02. Didn't install anything today. Worked just fine last night. Now, it "stops responding" and I have to kill it in the task manager.

I've done an uninstall/fresh install over existing install. I've disabled plugins.

I can't boot it to safe mode, it crashes before even loading. I have tried the "refresh firefox" option, but it crashes before loading too.

I've booted the PC in safe mode, does the same thing. I've run every malware/trojan/rootkit scanner I have at my disposal, found nothing.

I've deleted all the session info. Same thing.

In the meantime, another troubleshooting tip I might recommend here is to try to run a maintenance on the places.sqlite file in the profile. Since it happens when searching and with bookmarks only. Places Maintenance add on

You might have to start Firefox with a new profile to move over the existing places file. Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles Then copy the places.sqlite file into a new profile folder. (Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data )

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
