I've seen a lot or articles on all sorts of items about saved PWs but simply cannot find anything that shows me how to actually use the saved PWs. Help! Thank you.

Without using an extension you can't store data (name and password) in the Firefox Password Manager. Firefox will offer to store the name and password via a key icon at the left end of the location/address bar if you enter both in a form on a web page and submit the form. Firefox will fill that data on a next visit in the name and password fields on the logins page. Note that the Password Manager works differently in Private Browsing mode. In PB mode you can't store new passwords and name and password aren't filled automatically, but you need to start typing the name to get a drop-down list. You also need to use the drop-down list if there are multiple passwords stored and possibly when the form or password field has an autocomplete="off" attribute.

When you enter user/password information on a web page, the browser will ask if you want to save it (or update it if one is already recorded). The next time that website comes up asking for the password, the Password Manager will fill it in automatically.

If the Password Manager is enabled (Remember logins has a tick) and you have saved a password for a specific website (domain) then Firefox will offer to fill this name and password via a drop-down list or fill both automatically.

When/where/how does it automatically enter the PW? That's what has me so confused. I have Firefox saving PWs. I don't know how to actually use that function. Do I manually have to type in the URL in the address bar? I've tried that and FF never attempts to enter any PW info.

As I said I've already read all those links. Nothing ever tells me how to use the PW manager. See my reply to FredMcD. I'm used to using RoboForm. I click the site I want to log into and off it goes. How do I get FF to do that is what I am trying to ask. I'm entering data into the PW Mgr. I need to know exactly what I need to do trigger this so FF will log me into sites. In other words how do I actually use the FF PW Mgr? Nothing I have read ever comes out and tells me that. Nothing.

When you first go to log into a site, let us say Google. After you type in your login information Username and password then press enter a box will appear that asks you do you want to remember login info for this site. If you select yes then next time you go to that site either the fields will be automatically filled or when you began to type the username it will have a drop down menu for you to select and then will fill both fields. Allowing you to log in without typing everything out. It does not just auto-log you in.

The auto-fill feature only works if the site has the username and password fields clearly labeled in the documentation.

I think I have it. From what I have been able to come up with, with no help from any of the PW manager files, is to create Bookmarks to the sites that will use the saved PWs. Then once the site is accessed using the bookmarks the PW manager will fill the boxes. I can also manually type in the URL in the address bar but using bookmarks is so much quicker not to mention more accurate. I've never even had to start filling in the boxes because the PW Mgr has already filled them in. It would be great if the PW Mgr could be called up with a single click & then well could look through the list of saved sites & then be able to double click the one we want & off it would go. Then it would act just like RoboForm. Accessing the PW Mgr seems to serve no function at all as far as actually accessing those sites.

Thanks for your info.

Thanks for the info, I don't use Private Browsing. A drop down list would be terrific if we could select a site from the list & it would log me into that site.
