I've lost my connection. How can I get into Network tab - advanced - connection settings dialog -to change it to No proxy
Others have suggested that this stops the problem of loosing the internet connection

Even without a network connection, you should be able to access the Firefox options because they are stored locally on your system.
Please try entering about:preferences#advanced in your Firefox address bar. This is an alternate way to access the advanced tab of the Firefox options.
It is possible that your firewall or other security software blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
