Hi cromdavid.

There were some some issues with third party software affecting file uploads. Please read and try suggestion from here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1102907, maybe it's your case too.

Hi Michal Stanke,

Thank you for kindly replying. I don't have Trusteer software on my pc, so this cannot be the problem in my case. Are there other possible issues affecting Firefox's failure to upload pics (mine are less than 500kb) to Facebook?

Do you need more information from me?

best wishes

David

Hi David.

In fact any antivirus can cause it. What AV do you use? Can you try it to pause/stop it for a while and try the upload once again?

Thanks Michal,

I'm using Kasperksy Inernet Security 2016 version 16.0.1.445 which is the most up-to-date version. However, it's a moot point. when I switch it off, I still cannot load photos to Facebook.

I should add that it I am also unable to upload photos to Twitter. Again, I'm not talking about large phots. These are <500kb.

I have experimented with Internet Explorer and that works.

It really does appear to be a problem with Mozilla Firefox. If Mozilla cannotrpovide a solution, I will seriously consider moving away from Firefox.

3rd party software and antivirus are the most common sources of similar issues, but not the only ones and do not have to affect all apps necessarily.

In case disabling AV software did not make any difference, please try Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

Thank you Michal,

The problem still occurs in Firefox safemode. I checked my plug-ins and was informed that Java Runtime Environment was out of date. After installing the update (see attached pic), I restarted Firefox (in both normal and safe modes). Still unable to upload images to Facebook.

Even refreshing Firefox (back to factory settings) has failed to solve the problem.

I have not had time to fully explore the rest of this article. I'm no computing expert and, frankly, I am losing faith in Firefox by this stage. But thank you for your help in any case.

Did you have a look at the Facebook Help page https://m.facebook.com/help/167931376599294?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that helps.

cromdavid,

I am having the same problem using a laptop with windows 8.1. Did you ever fix it?

I am having the same problem.

Hi DDogbreath - it's now working most of the time (provided image isn't too large; not sure what size limit is). But it's still an intermittent problem.

I've no idea what's changed. All the above suggestions didn't solve the problem. It may be that automatic overnight Windows (or other software) updates at some point helped; I really have no idea. Sorry not to be more helpful - good luck!

cromdavid,

I can't get any photo's to upload to Facebook no matter what size they are. The instant messenger windows don't open when I click on them. Everything works normally in the chrome browser. This is rather depressing since I have been a loyal Firefox user since version 4.0.

Hi DDogbreath, have you already tried the usual things?

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement? (More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode)
