Unable to download the installer using firefox

more options

For some reason, when I click on 'Update available' notification of firefox browser, the update doesn't happen. Even when I visit the mozilla.org website and try to download the installer using firefox browser, it doesn't work. It gives SSL error with no option to continue further. Is it that my firefox browser cannot trust mozilla website download-installer.cdn.mozilla.net ?? IE also shows the same certificate error but there is an option to proceed further with my own risk. Why is that *.cdn.mozilla.net servers are not sending valid certificates ?

Hmm, why are you getting a different certificate than I'm getting?

Is this the only site where you're having a problem with that kind of certificate error -- sec_error_unknown_issuer -- or have you noticed it anywhere else recently? Sometimes a pattern indicate a problematic software change.

If you proceed at your own risk in Internet Explorer, can you view the certificate details by clicking the padlock icon (I think it will be there) in the IE address bar? I am attaching a screen shot of what I see on that site. Could you compare the areas that I boxed in red and let me know what you see?

I looked at the certificate details yesterday in IE, they are same as shown in above reply. Interestingly, today the certificate errors do not show up and could download the installer stub.

I know the only change that happened after I posted the above question is changing the policy of our company's cloud based proxy (BlueCoat Agent) to put this specific url in a different category so that it won't be blocked.

Having said that, today I could download the installer but the installer says 'Downloading the latest version' and it never completes. I waited for more than an hour and it is in the same state. I don't know if something else is blocking some connections on my computer but I would at least expect it say to me that it failed to download. Not hanging around running and not doing anything. So finally I had to download the offline installer and upgrade it.

The stub installer may be connecting back to a different server that you haven't allowed. You could research that using a local HTTP proxy...

But I agree that using the offline (full) installer instead of using the stub installer makes the most sense. For anyone reading this thread, you can get that on the following page (scroll down to your preferred language):
