I don't know what happened but typing or pasting something in the address bar and pressing enter no longer works (nor does the Go button).

I'm using OSX 10.9.4 and Firefox 39.0, so the other suggestions such as restarting in safe mode and/or disabling hardware acceleration is not applicable.

Did places maintenance help ?

UPDATE 8th July Renaming places.sqlite is the recommended solution if the location bar issue is not fixed by places maintenance see also my post under #answer-750717

The following request is only applicable if you still have the problem. OR you had the problem and kept a copy of the places.sqlite from when the problem existed.

May I ask have you retained a copy of the file places.sqlite from a profile that did not work ? If so would you be willing to let Mozilla look at that file ?

WARNING There are privacy issues, in that the file contains your bookmarks information and browsing History. The file will only be used by Mozilla developers. It will not be displayed publicly.

If you are willing to provide a copy of this file, if required please contact by email Marco Bonardo

mak AT mozilla.com

I suggest you put in the subject line

places.sqlite; bug 11804i9; (/support.mozilla.org/questions/<s>1070421 1070767)

and ask whether the file would be useful still. Thanks for your time and the information you have already provided.

Cheers,

John

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

Second link with "Create a new Bookmarks file" section seems to have solved it. I've deleted places.sqlite and localstore.rdf, restarted and it worked (and I've managed to backup my bookmars from an earlier save.

I've contacted him, and would send a copy of the file that wasn't working if necessary.

Great. Glad it is working again and thanks for the offer of help. The developers now have the information needed, quite possibly you were one of the ones that provided it.

Until this bug is fixed in Firefox, if it reoccurs again the simplest fix with least loss of data is to rename the file places.sqlite, IF the places maintenance addon fails to work. This is hardly an intuitive solution to an address bar problem. Detailed instructions for anyone needing them in

More advanced methods that may work in some cases and may fix the database, and so not affect the History, awesome bar and New Tiles are listed in https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Tech/Places/places.sqlite_Database_Troubleshooting
