regardless of which account is listed in any order, the get messages button only gets messages for the first account in the list, thus if you are expecting one into another account you have to highlight that account and click the get messages....

The get messages button has only even fetched the current accounts mail. There is an arrow beside it that allow you to select get all new messages, but you should rarely have any use for the button. Thunderbird seeks all mail on startup and again on a schedule you set, except for IMAP accounts. IMAP accounts mostly update immediately new mail is received.

Or, as I have found out, use an app that does perform the operation required...which would have been a much better answer as a moderator

I have no idea what your talking about. Thunderbird has no apps.

Perhaps your talking of add-ons. If you found an add-on perhaps you could mention what it is, so that I and other might know it exists.

You appear to be under some misconceptions,

!. Moderation is about answering questions. Wrong. Moderation is about deleting questions, editing comments that do not meet the guidelines for the forum and banning users. 2. Searching add-on is someone elses job. 3. Someone is getting paid to accept your criticism. I am not.

If I as a fellow user an ignorant of an add-on then tough luck for those I advise. They should have been resourceful enough to search for add-ons before they asked the question. I can only tell people what I know.

The add-on (why don't they call it an app....generally accepted for most things) is here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/thunderbird/addon/get-all-mails/ It makes it useful if you are awaiting emails to many accounts. Perhaps you could post a link to where answers can be found.

They do not call it an app because it is not one.

A decade ago when they were named add-ons no one had heard of a iPhone, let alone an app which was what apple called these little HTML5 and JavaScript snippets of code that they convinced people to actually pay for.

Also as a technical level they would fail the app text. They are not necessarily HTML5 and javascript .
