Do you have an older version of the Yahoo! toolbar? Unfortunately, the Mozilla Add-ons site has an old version, and other users are reporting that it did not auto-update to the latest release (Feb. 19, 2015, version 3.2.10).

You can manually install that new version from Yahoo's site here:

https://us.toolbar.yahoo.com/

Does that help?

Try going into addons and make sure it's still checked, ENABLED

Thanks you, the latest release (Feb. 19, 2015, version 3.2.10).

Comment by a forum moderator. I would strongly recommend against using Firefox 34. Firefox 36 is the current Release. Using an outdated version puts your personal data and your computer at increased risk. ~J99

I had the same problem and was frustrated before hitting on a solution. Open the following link using Chrome web browser:

https://downloads.yahoo.com/us/firefox/

Click on Download Now and install. That will roll you back to Firefox 34.05 but at least the Yahoo toolbar is back. I suggest not upgrading Firefox after that.

Not ideal but I'm a heavy user of the Yahoo toolbar... Any solutions to get that working on Firefox 36?

Hi jlw12, did you grab Yahoo!'s Feb. 26th update?

https://us.toolbar.yahoo.com/

Same problem I and others have been having for quite some time now... Error message says "The add-on could not be downloaded because of a connection failure on us.toolbar.yahoo.com." This connection error may be the same reason we see a blank toolbar on Firefox 36.

Hi jlw12, the download URL redirects to this address:

https://sxp.yimg.com/ei/toolbar/ie/yahootoolbar-3.2.11.20150226051211_intl-_sc-_pc-_dc-.xpi

If you follow that directly, can it be accessed?

In another thread, a LastPass user reported a similar error message in a similar situation (download URL redirects). I don't know what is causing either error message.

Thanks that worked!!

I had to use a different browser to access and download the file. Downloaded that with Chrome, installed in Firefox 34 and then updated to Firefox 36 and all appears to be working well. Appreciate the assistance!!

As an experiment I used the Yahoo US page and downloaded the toolbar. It installed

Yahoo! Toolbar	3.2.11.20150226051211  	{635abd67-4fe9-1b23-4f01-e679fa7484c1}

I used Fx38 on Windows 7, I am not in the US but I used the US page and left the locale option as US. The toolbar installed after I accepted the standard warning that it may be untrusted. The toolbar and its icons appeared and from what I can tell seems to work.

I did not need to downgrade to Firefox 34 before installing. It appears it is the 26th Feb update version.

Can any Mac users comment on how well the Yahoo! Toolbar currently works in Firefox for Mac ?

And if there are no major problems, which is the preferred version of Firefox to use with the Toolbar at this time? (v. 34 is the one that the download page defaults to, but I'm seeing recommendations here to use v. 36).

I'm using OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks).

Thanks.

Never use outdated Firefox. (Unless for test purposes, and then consider mitigating risks with well rehearsed bare metal recovery procedures &/or use on VMs)

Old versions of Firefox are not safe and not secure. They have security holes that are fixed then details publicised.Bad guys will exploit that. Your personal data and computer are then at increased risk of loss or damage.

If Yahoo is not fixing its toolbar to work on secure Firefox Releases it probably suggests they will soon remove it entirely. Yahoo are not a few days late or even one Release late it is now two releases behind. Following in the footsteps of Google. Some years ago their Google Toolbar was deprecated. It is no more.

Thanks, but this issue is more complex than it may seem at first glance.

Unfortunately, some time ago Yahoo! revamped itself to allow access to bookmarks (formerly, a standalone feature) only via the Yahoo! Toolbar.

So one doesn't currently really have a choice not to use the Toolbar unless one wishes to forego what could be years of aggregated bookmarks. (As far as I know, there is also no way to download Yahoo! bookmarks, so that one can abandon Yahoo! if one wishes to do that).

I do not use the Yahoo toolbar and only installed it for test purposes. I suggest you start a specific question about the matter of the Yahoo toolbar bookmarks both in this forum and on a Yahoo forum.

On the yahoo forum make sure you make mention of the fact that Firefox 34 is not secure.

With luck there will be some workaround. There may already be a solution to that. I am sure Yahoo & Mozilla cooperate at a high level, after all there is an agreement whereby Yahhoo is now the default Firefox search engine in en-US.

Given the large numbers affected by this I imagine it will be worth filing a Firefox bug for this even if it it is not a direct Firefox fault. There is already

Bug 1131604 - Yahoo toolbar preferences are broken and several elements are missing from the toolbar

And a staff member has escalated a question regarding Yahoo offering Firefox34 downloads, something that AFAIK Mozilla would not approve of.

I stupidly updated to firefox 39 from 35, and YES lost my toolbar and my search window is tiny and cannot seem to find any workaround. I tried downloading as above in chrome, but it did NOT put the toolbar back in firefox, and still have no idea how to get back my multiple icons from that toolbar and still get that "this add on could not be downloaded because of a connection ..." UGH! please tell me that someone much smarter than me, has figured out how to get this back, I do REALLY use that toolbar, at least for now, I do have all my bookmarks...

Ok wait! I am smarter than I thought (LOL) I got it to work, I took the link above to yahoo toolbar, it wouldn't open in chrome, so I went to file location of it(downloaded) then told it to open in Mozilla (it would not just open directly in mozilla 39)once I did open it separately from folder, voila! I now have all my toolbar icons back in place ! so if that helps someone else, good. I guess I will go post elsewhere to ask (edit see /questions/1071926#answer-753006 ~J99) about that search bar size...oy vey...
