Cleaning up thunderbird i deleted everything on my gmail acct too. urgently need help
i changed my ISP but kept thunderbird syncing it to gmail. using it mostly as a backup. however, my In msgs would sync but Sent msgs in gmail were not synced to thunderbird. i must have initially done something wrong. months passed. i decided to clean up my thunderbird msgs tonight & deleted my in, sent, trash, boxes only to discover everything is also gone in my gmail including all my folders in both thunderbird & gmail which i had not touched. how do i get my emails back? i no longer can use webmail with thunderbird as that ISP acct is closed. I really want my folders back as they contain so much info. thank you

Assuming your account is IMAP, then this is what's supposed to happen.

Thunderbird doesn't do webmail. You'd use a browser for webmail.

Have you checked your Gmail Trash folder?
tnx for the GREAT reply. transferring everything from the trash back into my 'in' box worked. then i painfully transferred all of my previous 'lost' emails back into their folders...... my thunderbird webmail was stored on my old ISP which i could access using my browser. however, now that i no longer use that ISP, when i try to access my webmail it now asks for an account # & I can no longer access thunderbird using webmail. i assume the acct # would have been with my old ISProvider. i dont know how else to access the webmail. any suggestions?
There is no such thing as Thunderbird web mail or Thunderbird email for that matter. Thunderbird is email client software that runs on your computer that helps you manage your real email account. If you had an account with an ISP and you did not take steps to move and store that mail on your local drive before you canceled that service, it is gone.
