If I reply 'NO' Firefox does not start. If I reply 'Yes' firefox starts as normal but In addition the 'close' tab, top right of the Firefox screen is filled with black. It works correctly if you can remembere exactly where each of the symbols is

Check that Firefox isn't set to run as Administrator. Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties". Make sure that all items are deselected in the "Compatibility" tab of the Properties window.

  • Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" should not be selected
  • "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" should not be selected

Also check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).

Hi JimMcNicol, I have never seen this error before, do you happen to have a screenshot? Please ignore this if you already know how to do this: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

What happens if you run the program as the administrator?

  1. Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
  2. In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.
