All of my passwords disappeared after 32.0 even though privacy set to "remember history"

I have used Firefox since it was introduced and have had it remember my passwords for as long as that's been possible. Suddenly, last week, after the 32.0 upgrade, all of my passwords completely disappeared. I have the Privacy settings set to "Firefox will Remember History". Why would they have disappeared, and how can I retrieve them? Is there anything nefarious I should be worried about (could they have been stolen)?

I am running Windows 8.0 on a 64-bit computer with 4GB RAM/1TB HDD. Today, I upgraded to 32.0.1, but the passwords are still missing. I have Sync enabled.

In an odd twist, I updated to 32.0.1, restarted FireFox, and still no passwords.

HOWEVER, after I rebooted the computer and then opened Firefox, NOW my passwords show up (although, oddly, my open tabs had all closed).

Could you check on the Security panel of the Options dialog to confirm that the feature is turned on and that your saved logins are still stored by Firefox?

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Security

  • Checkbox: Remember passwords for sites
  • Button: Saved Passwords

If you have never set a Master Password, you could consider doing that as well. See: Use a Primary Password to protect stored logins and passwords. Since there is no password recovery feature, make sure to choose a password you will remember, or write it down somewhere.

recheck your Password check box. Mac - Preferences>Security>Passwords... make sure "Remember passwords for sites" is checked.

I often go into the "Saved Passwords" area. notice you can accidentally uncheck "Remember passwords for sites" even when your pointer is NO WHERE NEAR the check box! LOL! that's not a good design! i must have unknowingly done it when going into Saved Passwords.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backup of files that you choose.
