Hi there,

Firefox desktop and Fennec Android are syncing everything perfectly, including tabs from Fennec in Firefeox, except for when I try to view tabs from Firefox in Fennec I get the message: "You don't have any tabs open in Fennec on your other devices".

I have tried to figure out what's causing this and have searched for answers but I can't figure it out. Could anyone suggest what the problem might be please. Appologoes if this is something obvious I've just missed.

Many thanks,

Hi

The "fennec" build that you mention is not produced or published by Mozilla. I recommend trying Firefox for Android from the Google Play store.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your response.

I'm trying not using Google Play services, trying out GrapheneOS. As I undstand there is no way to sideload Firefox Android and have it reliably receive updates. Hence Fenec from F-droid.

If this forum can't help because my problem involves a non Mozilla product that's fine.

Cheers,

Fenix is the code name for Android Firefox from Mozilla https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/fenix/releases/145.0.2/android/

If you have a pretty current phone or tablet then try the fenix-145.0.2-android-arm64-v8a/

Hi James,

Thank you for your reply.

Is there a way to receive updates for Firefox Android outside of the Google play store or sideloading and manually updating? As far as I'm aware Mozilla's repository is not compatible with, and can't be added functionally to F-droid, for example.

Many thanks,

This is a common issue where Fennec (older Firefox Android) fails to pull the tab list, even if desktop pushes are successful.

Steps To Fix:

Check Sync Settings: On Firefox Desktop, go to Settings → Sync. Ensure "Open Tabs" is explicitly checked for sync.

Force Refresh on Fennec: On the Fennec (Android) app, go to Settings → Sync → Sync Now.

Authentication Check: Log out of your Firefox Account on Fennec and log back in to force a fresh authentication token.

Upgrade Fennec: If possible, upgrade Fennec to the current Firefox for Android app, as the older Fennec codebase may have known sync API issues.

Hi Alex,

Your relevant response is very much appreciated, thank you.

Unfortunately, after trying each of the steps you mention the issue remains the same.

The installed Fennec build is the the most recent available I think: 145.0.0. (I'm aware that Firefox Android has more recent releases.)

When you say upgrade to the current Firefox for Android app, do you just mean replace Fennec? If so, can I ask, is this possible in any way other than using Google Play Store or sideloading and manually updating?

Many thanks,

Forgive my ignorance. That isn't a rhetorical question, I sincerely cant find information about this. I have found older posts of people discussing the same question, but cant see anything concrete and recent.
