Hi there,

i have had this problem for a long time, and been unable to discover the solution: my local library online, which is http://ipac1.librarieshawaii.org , always times me out after just a minute or so, and i have to start all over with my searches, browsing books, or whatever i was doing with my account (eg. viewing/sorting my requested items...).

This is of course time-wasting and frustrating! Is there a way to change settings for this site somehow to resolve this issue?

I'm not sure I understand what goes wrong.

Do you mean that you are no longer logged on or is there something else going wrong?

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure such extensions do not block content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Separate Security Issue: Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

thanks cor-el! yes, i get logged out repeatedly, like every minute or so, and the only way i can avoid it is to click on its various links super often! (which is of course not at all a useful solution!)

thanks fred! well my Flash is already on the most updated my system allows (Windows XP). I keep getting the notice to update it,but it always fails when i try!

i will try your graphics drivers idea next...
