This config doesn't work anymore:

about:config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false

WHY doesn't it work anymore? Can someone please make it work again? I hate the drop down. Poor UI design, people.

Thanks in advance for your prompt response!

Soluție aleasă

If you already use the Classic Theme Restorer extension, there is a checkbox in there to restore the old search box. (But I wouldn't install it just for this.)

Alternately, you can keep the new search box and apply some custom style rules to it to make it more similar to the old box. For example: https://userstyles.org/styles/122214/firefox-search-bar-show-engine-names-firefox-43

This - browser.search.showOneOffButtons - was a temporary pref and was discontinued quite a few versions ago.

Try this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/old-search-fixed2/

Indeed, I went with the Classic Theme restorer. Pretty ridiculous that the option to turn off the poorly designed search box was removed.
