Please see Home Support Forum Firefox Some videos will not play correctly for complete problem.

I apologize for this repeat question, I thought I had saved the answer so if the problem came up again I would have the solution, but now I can't find it back anywhere. I promise I will save the answer several times over.

As it turned out the answer was a very simple solution to a problem involving Facebook and did not involve any programs on my computer that act as blockers. As the person who sent me the solution, Facebook had changed something and that's what caused the original problem. And once I changed something simple on my computer, it forced Facebook to allow my computer to play the video. And I can't find that answer anywhere.

I hope you can help me again, Thanks, Bernadine

Hi Bernadine, if you check your profile on this site, there are links to your previous questions and other threads you participated in. Hopefully what you need is in one of those:

That's the first place I tried to find it. That's why I asked anyone who might have an answer to go to my previous question about this at - "Home Support Forum Firefox Some videos will not play correctly" for complete problem and replies that didn't work. Thanks, Bernadine

Isee You're saying that you found the answer, but it's not posted here, but we could look at the old thread to see what is NOT the answer. Unfortunately that doesn't really help me guess the answer.

How is Facebook involved in this?

What security software do you have?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) to see if that has effect in case other software is interfering and blocking content.

Looking at my former post would show in detail what the problem was and is again, before I had the now lost solution. This computer stuff is really stressful for me and causes anxiety attacks. I don't want to have to rewrite everything I've already written or go through the same procedures that didn't work the first time.

Oh, I'm sorry not Facebook but YouTube. See I get stressed and I don't realize I've given the wrong information, it's all in my first post listed above.

If you are using extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

You can also check the settings in your security software to make sure that this content isn't blocked.

Avast antivirus, Malwarebytes, AdBlocker+, Web of Trust, Ghostery, NoScript, HTTPS Everywhere, Flashblock, but as before, everything is the same EXCEPT that I did the last update for FireFox and now the video's won't play again. If I took screen shots of what it's doing now it is the same as in my previous post. I will try starting the computer in mode when I'm not so stressed.

I do have Flashblock but it is set to allow me to click on the icon and have it play the video.

This is another solution that didn't work: " Board index ‹ Mozilla Firefox ‹ Firefox Support

suddenly can't play videos on YouTube (weird)

Post Posted March 20th, 2011, 1:17 pm ... PROBLEM SOLVED!!! ... I right clicked on You Tube's blank square (black or white) and clicked on "Report playback issue" ... I did and that took me to the following page:

http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1209379 ... where I found an explanation about Adobe ... bla, bla, bla and the following:

"While we work with Adobe to smooth out these kinks, the following steps will allow you to disable hardware-accelerated playback: "

1 Right-click in the middle of the video below (or on the on the video you're having issues with) 2 Click Settings 3 Click the left-most tab 4 Uncheck the 'Enable hardware acceleration' checkbox to disable hardware acceleration. 5 Refresh the page"

Only when I right click in the middle of the video there isn't a Settings to click. ' The solution I used before was something about clicking on something in my computer.

I tried to follow the instructions to boot in Safe Mode but the instructions didn't match what was on my computer. It said Advanced Start up, Settings, only there isn't a Setting option. So I couldn't do it. Doubt if it would help, the last time the good solution didn't require any of that.

Did you already try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox?

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Disabled made no difference, enabled again. You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting. Disabled all Add-ons and video was OK. Turned one on at a time till Flashblock and that seemed to be the cause. Enabled all Add-ons except Flashblock video OK. Enabled Flashblock video, bad again. So it must be the Flashblock, but I don't understand, it's been on my computer for a long, long time and worked fine until it just stopped working. Flashblock version is 1.5.20 Didn't do the rest of this: You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

At least I'm getting closer and can stop shaking a bit. What can I do to get Flashblock to work again with the videos like it did before?

Thanks, Bernadine
