I have the same problem like user here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/986151 but I don't have Avast AV only F-secure and before Fx 27 I hadn't any problems like this and, yes, I can using that option in other browsers. Please help. :)

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
  • Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

In what way is "Save as" not working?

Is that menu item grayed or does the file picker window not open?

Yup, file picker window doesn't open.

Well, another new profile and voilla, Ctrl+S works, but... what now? Which element is guilty? ;)

You can rename (or delete) the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all file actions.

You can check for problems with preferences and delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Well, I just did all what you typed here, but I get nothing..., and I did a Safe Mode restart of Fx and voilla, Ctrl+S works again! ;) But only in Safe Mode...

Well, I just was disabling one extension by one, and I found that PhotoMe 2.0 was that trouble making extension. ;) I can't register on its forum. Anyone can confirm it?
