I can't find a way to print a copy of my bookmarks, printing a web page is not a problem.

Normally I press Ctrl + P and print any page displayed by Firefox. This does not work to print my bookmarks. if I export my bookmarks to HTML I can print them but they are reformatted and do not display the web address - i.e. ( www.mozzilla.org ). If I could email my bookmarks to myself then I could easily print them. I appreciate any suggestions. If you wish to contact me directly use - (Email removed by Mod)

Chosen solution

You can export the bookmarks to an HTML file like bookmarks.html.

Then you can open this bookmarks.html file in a text editor like Notepad and paste the above posted lines just below the TITLE line.

<pre><code><TITLE>Bookmarks</TITLE>
<style>
 dl > dt > dl { display: block; -moz-margin-start: 40px; }
 dl > dt > dl { margin-left:40px; }

 a[href]:link:after,a[href]:visited:after{content:" «"attr(href)"» ";}
</style>
<H1>Bookmarks Menu</H1></code></pre>

Then you can save the file and open the modified file in Firefox via Firefox > New Tab > Open File or just drag the file on empty space on the tab bar.

I opened the exported bookmarks.html first in OpenOffice. The URLs are recognized as such, so the net address in burried under the given names.

in Word and in Noterpad++, the URLs are visible , even if embedded in html mumbo jumbo.

You can edit the HTML file and add these lines to make Firefox append the links and also format (indent) folders.

<style>
 dl > dt > dl { display: block; -moz-margin-start: 40px; }
 dl > dt > dl { margin-left:40px; }

 a[href]:link:after,a[href]:visited:after{content:" «"attr(href)"» ";}
</style>

You are so far ahead of me it scares me. I have no idea how to even start your suggestion. I am sure it works. I hope Mozilla adds a few lines of code to Firefox 23 that makes it easy to print bookmarks. Thanks cor-el.

I finally got this to work. THANK YOU. My bookmarks now display with the name of the link and the URL.

Being unfamiliar with this, it took me many tries, here are additional clarifications to some of the steps:

1. Export to HTML file [Using the header on the Bookmarks Library header, use the dropdown to 'Export to HTML'] ;

2. Save the file in HTML File format, with the .html file type appended;

3. In the Finder window, find the bookmark file you just created and overwrite the current file type of .html with .txt [Doing a Save As here didn't work, though I did save in the .txt format, the file still acted like HTML only showing the untranslated link names);

4. Open this .txt file and underneath the title which might say something like DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1, copy and paste in Moderator cor-el's HTML lines from above.

5. Save ['Save a version' was the choice displayed] and this will still be in your .txt format;

6. In the Finder window, find the .txt bookmark file you just created and overwrite the file type of .txt with .html ;

7. Then drag that new .html file to a new Firefox tab [or open with Firefox > New Tab > Open File].

The result should be a clean looking page, without gobbledygook, of the same Bookmark page you had, but with the links next to the bookmark names. Hope that helps.

Hi TinaInVA,

Nice avatar, Thank you for your reply. I will try it soon. Been very busy with other things. I hope someday Firefox some day has a print option on the organize or export tab. Other people have told me how mad they are when an update removes their bookmarks. I will let you know if it works, really if I can make it work.

Yes David241, I would be simpler if the bookmark file was easier to find, and the URLs displayed without all the rigamarole! I've never had my bookmarks disappear. There's that thing called a 'backup'. LOL. Right now I want to clean mine up as the file is a catchall from old computers, different browsers, different devices, imports on top of imports over the years. Next, somebody can tell us how to search this file for dupes and bad links eh? :-)
